11 owls on Friday night made for a good night if a bit slow. Would gladly have taken that result for Saturday. We were only able to open for a few hours until the drizzles started. A little drizzle is acceptable but they kept coming off and on with the radar showing more of the same for the next several hours. Michael’s parents dropped by so was disappointed they didn’t get to see us in action.
Sunday night was painfully slow with mist and fog all night. Finally got 2 owls in the same net run in the wee hours. Thought that might signal the owls were now on the move. Nope. They were not. 2 was all we got.
Last night we got 9 owls which considering the heavy fog after midnight was a decent result. The fog essentially shut down the owl movement. We only got one owl after the fog moved in. It turned out to be an owl banded at Point LaBarbe last fall. Welcome back! The fog was so thick we couldn’t see any lights on the bridge or any part of the bridge.
Hopefully the weather will be more cooperative this week and owls begin moving again. The weekend is forecast to once again be wet. Hope they are wrong. Or at least let the rain come during the day so we can band in peace and dryness! Sorry for your weekend picnic plans.
