I think I have discovered a new ecotome: the boreal rain forest. After what seemed like endless days of rain or threats of rain we finally seem to have a few days of clear weather. Despite the rain (and did I forget to mention the wind?) we have banded all of part of every night. Our saw whet total is up to 349 with 5 Barred and 2 Long Eared Owls.
Of course rain is forecast for a couple of days mid week. Hopefully it will only rain during the day and leave us night owls alone! The bright moon now out most of the night is enough of a challenge from lighting up the nets. A few evening clouds would help dampen the moon light. As long as they don’t bring any rain. Do I sound conflicted?
Still, the owls keep coming.
