Several slow days as well as two no-count days led to a rather slow week. Only 912 raptors were sighted.
The majority of this week’s raptor sightings were red-tailed hawks, with 499 total. Turkey vulture’s had a slower week, with only 251 observations. We still had a good variety of raptors despite the overall low numbers; other than turkey vultures and red-tailed hawks, we are still seeing a constant push of bald eagles as well as smaller numbers of other raptors. Sharp-shinned hawk sightings have declined significantly but are continually spotted making their way south; this week saw a total of 38.
This week brought about the first golden eagles of the season, with 2 seen on 10/16, 3 on 10/21, and 4 on 10/22.
Rain showers are expected during most of week 10, likely continuing this trend of low count days.
