This week produced some surprising results. We thought we’d passed our high number period with 95 last week having dropped from the 193 of the week before, but the birds continue to say hello. We had 115 this week, with our highest day producing 39 birds. Averaging 19 a night, our total for the season is now 624 NSWO.
And since this week surpassed the 600 bird mark, we had another little celebration for this crazy season milestone, being only the second fall season at the project to exceed 600 birds. We made sure to keep track this time.
We’ve had a couple more big visitors to the nets, with one more Barred Owl and one more Long-Eared Owl.
Throughout the season we’ve seen hundreds of little owls pass through our nets and are always keen on determining what kind of face each has, whether they be Unbearably Cute:
Menacing:
Derpy:
Distinguished:
Tipsy:
Cheeky:
Regal:
Serious:
Excited for picture day:
Calm:
and Judgy:
The possibilities are endless.
Good weather opportunities seem to be dwindling, so it’s up in the air as to how the rest of the two weeks are going to play out. Our fingers are crossed in the hopes we’ll get to 673 for the season since we’re so close to beating the project’s fall season record total. Not that we’re competitive or anything. (We are).
Nonetheless, we’re excited to say hello to many more new faces as the nights go by.
Until next time,
Peyton & Mary
