On October 31st Common Loons came in droves to spend part of their Halloween at the straits. Heavy winds came from the northwest bringing intermittent rain and 4-foot waves for much of the day. The loons had a near-constant movement throughout the day with 25-49 being reported per hour with a peak of 110 at 12 pm, following a passing rainstorm, and then later in the count, during the final hour, things seemed to have calmed down with 15 being recorded. There was not a big movement of any other species during the day. The previous record for Common Loons was in August 2019 when Jonah Levy recorded 247 at McGulpin Point.
